  18. System requirements
  19. -------------------
  20. Spell Checker for Edit Boxes requires Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher.

  25. The main reason for this upgrade is to improve the interface for programmers,
  26. but improvements have also been made to the code in general, for instance the
  27. undo has been debugged and extra error checking has been put in.

  30. Installation
  31. ------------
  32. This program comprises of two parts:
  33.  
  34. 1) The program files (containing this readme file).  
  35.  
  36. 2) A dictionary file (.SCD) which provides the words for a particular
  37.    language.  You must install at least one dictionary file for the program 
  38.    to work.
  39.    
  40.    At the moment English (UK), English (US) and German are available, although 
  41.    the german dictionary is still on beta test at present (11/10/94).  A 
  42.    French dictionary is being considered.

  44.    You may have received a .SCD with the main program, if not contact your
  45.    supplier, or if you have internet access you can ftp them from:

  47.           ftp.demon.co.uk            /pub/ibmpc/windows/spell

  49. All the files need to be copied to a sub directory on your hard drive.  When 
  50. you have copied the files you will need to create an icon for the setup 
  51. program in Program Manager (consult your windows manual if you are unsure how).

  53. Run setup and follow the instructions.

  55. For details on each of the options available from the options box press 'Help'. 
  56.  
  57. I suggest at this point you stop off and read the help file for information 
  58. on each of the available options, and you may also wish to create a user 
  59. dictionary.

  62. Usage
  63. -----
  64. From within any edit box press the short cut key that you have set up.  The 
  65. checker will start.  See the help file for details on using the dialog box.
  66.  
  67. The options box can be reached either from the main spelling checker box 
  68. (type in a deliberately incorrect spelling and check it to make the box 
  69. display), or by running the setup program.
  70.  
  71. If you are having problems, try doing a check from notepad, not every edit
  72. control is compatible.  You might also like to deselect the 'Edit boxes only'
  73. option, which allows the program to be used from a larger range of programs, 
  74. but at some small risk.  See the help file for details.

  77. Uninstalling
  78. ------------
  79. Select 'Remove' from the Options box.  You will be asked to reboot windows.

  81. Once windows has been rebooted the files can be safely deleted from your 
  82. hard drive.
